Originally formed in 1981, the Floor Lords have played an important role in the evolution of hip hop culture for two decades. Helping first define and then expand the art of breaking, the group has helped bring hip hop to millions of fans worldwide through television and film appearances on "Live With Regis & Kathy Lee", "Donahue", "Krush Groove", and "Southie". Now established as a professional dance troupe, the Floor Lords have been honored for their contribution to Hip Hop with their own signature line of the world’s first breakdance shoes: The Saucony Courageous.

In 1998, the Floorlords came up with a concept of a theatrical production which involved different styles of dance including African, Capoiera, Martial Arts, Meringue and Jazz. They combined these styles of dance with all the elements of hip hop (MCing, Graffiti, B Boying & B Girling (breaking), DJing and Beatboxing) into a two hour performance entitled "Floorlore" The History of Hip Hop. The show is about how all these different styles of dance and cultures are involved in creating the hip hop culture. It also demonstrates how hip hop is a positive culture and not all the negativity that is in the media.

The performers have since been incorporated into an entertainment company called Floorlords Movement. They perform at and organize events and concerts at community centers, night clubs and schools.
